How to Plan the Perfect Long Distance Paint Night
If you’re looking for a date night that is fun, romantic, creative, wholesome, adorable, and totally instagram worthy: a long distance paint night date is the perfect choice for you.
Follow this step by step guide to plan the perfect long distance paint night for you and your partner or your friends!
Step 1: Choose a Date and Time
Organizing a time to get together can be difficult but try your best to find at least an hour where you’ll both be undisturbed. If you’re planning a more detailed painting make sure to give yourself extra time. Don’t forget time for cleanup!
Step 2: Gather your supplies
Gathering the supplies is fun and if you already have some art supplies on hand it makes it even easier!
You can get everything you need for a simple paint night at an art supply store, craft shop, or a dollar store. I can buy all the supplies I need at my local dollar store for less than $10. You can also purchase an online art kit on Etsy or Amazon.
While you’re out getting supplies, pick up some snacks for your evening! If you’re a couple who likes to sip and paint, some wine does wonders to set the mood.
Long Distance Paint Night Supply List:
- Canvas
- Paint
- Paint Brushes
- A cloth for any spills
- Palette (You can also use the lid of a yogurt container, a disposable plate, or any other flat surface)
- (optional) Plastic Tablecloth
- (optional) Snacks & Beverages
Step 3: Decide your theme or what to paint
One way to plan a long-distance paint night is to set a theme for your pieces so that you both have matching art for your homes. You could also do complimenting pieces, or surprise each other completely! We’ve followed online tutorials to paint the same scene, based our art off the same color palette, done pieces themed around one word, video game themed paintings, and have even done art nights with friends where we all show our own style.

Some mess free snacks also help to create the perfect romantic environment.
Whether you are perfectionists or are finger painting, do whatever makes you happiest!
Remember to keep it simple, and have fun.
Step 5: The reveal & wrap-up
At the end of your evening, be sure to give a grand reveal of your masterpieces. A drumroll is always a nice addition!
You can even mail the finished canvas to your partner so they can enjoy your art as a gift, or deliver it to them the next time you meet in person.
Whether you keep your art as matching masterpieces across the distance, or you prepare it as a gift for it will make the perfect memory for you both to share.
